The Austin Club: Where History Meets Hospitality

Located in the heart of downtown Austin, The Austin Club is a distinguished private membership club and premier event venue, proudly housed in one of the city’s most historic buildings. Originally built in 1878 by city father Captain Charles F. Millett and designed by renowned architect Frederick E. Ruffini, the building once served as Austin’s grand Opera House—second in stature only to Galveston’s. With its 800-seat auditorium, hand-painted ceiling, and limestone walls, it was the cultural and social hub of Austin in the late 19th century, hosting everything from operas and political conventions to church services and theater performances.

Over the years, the building evolved—serving as a skating rink, storage space, and school property—before being preserved and revitalized. In 1979, The Austin Club secured a long-term lease and undertook extensive renovations, transforming the space into the elegant club it is today.

Blending timeless charm with modern amenities, The Austin Club continues to honor its storied past while offering members and guests a unique setting for dining, networking, and celebrating life’s most important moments.
